Situated in eastern part of Gansu, Qingyang city is habitually known as Longdong. The total area of the city is 27,119 square kilometers and the total population 2.6051 million.

Qingyang is rich in historical and cultural heritages, including mausoleum of Zhouzu, Palace of Gongliu, Great Wall of Qin dynasty, Northern Grottoes Temple, ancient tombs, ancient castles, beacon towers, the site of the government of Shaaxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, the seventh branch of Resistance University, Monument of Later Liang Regime, as well as the farming culture, folk culture and loess culture dubbed by experts the embodiment of Chinese culture, crystallization of ethnic culture and the earliest plastic arts. Qingyang is also known for its special folk culture, such as embroidery, paper-cutting, shadow play and Daoqing (chanting folk tales to the accompaniment of simple percussion instruments). In order to carry on the traditional culture, the folk cultural festival of embroidery is held annually by Qingyang government. Also the art festival of Daoqing and shadow play in Huanxian County and peach blossom fair in Ningxian County are held each year by local governments.
