
In recent years, through seizing the historical opportunity of the large-scale development of the western China and implementing the strategy of invigorating Gansu through industry and the strategy of opening up wider to the outside world, Gansu has promoted the development of agriculture and the rural economy, facilitated infrastructure development, and given high priority to the development of social programs. The economy has maintained good development momentum. The general strength is boosted up effective and the industrial structure became reasonable, at the same time, people's living conditions have bettered a great deal.
In 2009, Gansu’s GDP reached 338.235 billion yuan, up by 10.1 percent over the previous year. The added value generated by the primary industry achieved 49.75 billion yuan, increased by 4.9%; that of the secondary industry achieved 151.098 billion yuan, increased by 10.4%; and that of the tertiary industry reached 137.387 billion yuan, an increase of 11.3%, which include: the added value of banking and insurance is 8.83 billion yuan, increased by 20.1%; the added value of wholesale and retail trades is 23.12 billion yuan, increased by 15.3% ; the added value of real estate industry is 10.14 billion yuan, increased by 7.0%. The structure ratio of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries is 14.71: 44.67: 40.62. Compared with the previous year, the proportion of secondary industry dropped by 1.66 percentage points, that of primary and tertiary industry rose by 0.16 and 1.50 percentage points respectively.
